Bob's Biography

Bob was born in France and came to the United States when he was four years old with his mother and step father who was serving in the military. At age 10, after his parents divorced, he moved to Mexico with his step father and sister. He lived in Mexico for about nine years and after graduating from high school at the American School Foundation in Mexico City he came back to the United States in 1972 for his college education.

The first college he attended was Mankato State College in Mankato, Minnesota on a football scholarship. Later, in order to be reunited and live closer to his mother in Southern California, he attended the University of California Santa Barbara. After that he attended Ventura College in Ventura, California.

In between colleges (1974-76) Bob served a voluntary two year mission for his church in the French Polynesian Islands and New Caledonia. He learned French and Tahitian to communicate with the people he served.

In 1980 Bob graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah with a composite Minor in Economics and Accounting combined with a composite Major in Marketing and Financial & Estate Planning.

Shortly after graduating from college, Bob was offered the opportunity to work at G.W. Story & Associates, Inc. located in Sacramento, California to begin the process of taking over Dr. Ed Duke’s wealth management practice.

At that time G. W. Story & Associates, Inc. was the largest private wealth management firm in the greater Sacramento area with about 50 advisors. Bob became a Vice President and was a member of the due diligence committee that approved the different investments that were authorized for use by the financial advisors of the firm.

Ed Duke, MS, MA, CFP®, PhD mentored Bob for several years including the introduction to technical analysis and how it can protect portfolios against significant market declines. This inspired Bob to travel around the country to find niche money managers that believed in and practiced defensive tactical and dynamic money management strategies.

Bob became registered to offer securities and licensed to sell insurance while attending college (Series 1 & Series 63 in 1980). After college he got the Series 7 license in 1983, the Series 24 principal license in 1991, and the Series 51 license in 2003. He also holds a license in long term care insurance (2006).

In 1989 Bob started his own firm, Gibson Capital Management (GCM). Bob founded GCM with a goal to remain independent of the ‘half-truths’ spewed from the large Wall Street firms and to give clients a more personal approach to the wealth management process.

In 1992 Bob became a Certified Fund Specialist (CFS) from the Institute of Business and Finance.

In 1995 Bob completed his Masters of Science degree in Financial & Estate Planning from the College for Financial Planning, Denver, Colorado.

In 2000 Bob completed the course work to become a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) from the Association of Certified Senior Advisors.

After experiencing some health challenges, in 2007 Bob became a Certified Natural Health Professional (CNHP) to gain a better understanding of how the body functions and how it responds to natural methods of healing.

In 2009 Bob became a Temperament Certified Professional (TCP) in the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II (KTS-II) based on the work of psychologist David Keirsey, Ph.D. The KTS-II is the most widely used personality instrument in the world that helps individuals discover their personality type.

In 2012 Bob became a Certified Annuity Specialist (CAS). There are over 400,000 insurance agents in the US (US Dept. of Labor). Of that number only 1% are Certified Annuity Specialists.

In 2016 Bob became a Professional Plan Consultant (PPC) from Fi360 to help small business owners fulfill their legal and fiduciary responsibilities in setting up, maintaining, and educating their employees of their 401(K) plan. In 2021 Bob decided to inactivate this designation.

In 2020 Bob became a Certified Estate & Trust Specialist (CES) from the Institute of Business and Finance.

Due to never ending and inane regulations of the Financial Industry Regulatory Association (FINRA), in early 2019 Bob decided to drop his securities licenses.

During the 1980's and 90's Bob taught many “Successful Money Management” and other financial related classes through the Federal Government, the State of California, the City of Sacramento and evening courses through adult education classes in the San Juan Unified School District.

As an independent insurance agent Bob is contracted with some of the most well-known life insurance companies in the United States.
